Floating Nightstand
Setup and care. It arrives assembled: two screws in the wall, and it hangs on them. About five minutes.
In the box
- —The nightstand, assembled, with its drawer in place.
- —Two self-drilling drywall anchors and their screws.
You will need a pencil, a tape measure, a level and a #2 screwdriver. No drill: the anchors bore their own hole in drywall.
Put it on the wall
1. Draw one level line
Decide where you want the underside of the nightstand. Measure 41.7 mm (1⅝ in) straight up from there and draw a level line: both screws go on it, 220 mm (8⅝ in) apart.
2. Drive the two anchors
The anchors cut their own hole in drywall: screw each one in with a #2 screwdriver until its collar sits flush with the wall. No drill needed.
3. Drive the screws — not all the way
Drive the supplied screw into each anchor and stop with the head standing about 6 mm (¼ in) off the wall — the thickness of a quarter laid flat against it. The nightstand hooks behind those heads: driven flush it will not go on, left too loose it rocks.
4. Hang it and let it drop
Hold the nightstand flat to the wall, pass the two screw heads through the round part of the keyholes on its back, then let it slide down 14 mm (½ in) until it stops. It locks on its own; nothing screws in from the front.
5. Check it
Pull it gently toward you: it should not move. If it rocks, lift it off and turn each screw a quarter turn in.
Not drywall?
- Drywall over a stud: a #8 × 2 in wood screw straight into the stud, no anchor — the strongest mount of all.
- Concrete, brick, solid plaster: drill 8 mm (5/16 in) and 45 mm deep, a nylon plug, then a #8 × 1¾ in screw.
- Replacing the screws? The head must be 9.5 mm (3/8 in) across at most to pass the keyhole, and the shank 5 mm at most.
The drawer
It slides out about 98 mm (3⅞ in). Over the last few millimetres it resists a little: that is the stop that keeps it from falling out, not a defect. To take it out completely, pull firmly past it.
Looking after it
Never put it in the dishwasher
It is 3D printed in PLA. A dishwasher cycle is hot enough to soften the plastic, and it comes out warped — the drawer will not slide again. This cannot be undone.
- —Wipe it with a damp cloth and a drop of dish soap, then dry it. No bleach, no solvents, no abrasive pad — they dull the wood-grain drawer front.
- —Keep it away from heat: not above a radiator, not in full sun behind a window, and no hot mug straight on the top for hours.
